Customs Duties & Taxes

  • Import Duties: Calculated based on customs value and vehicle type.
  • VAT: 21% applied on customs value + import duties + extra fees.
  • Personal Exemptions: Available if the owner lived outside the EU for ≥12 months, used the vehicle for ≥6 months prior to arrival, and keeps it for personal use for ≥12 months after import.

Vehicle Registration

  • Applications must be sent to the Vehicle Registration Service (DIV) after customs clearance.
  • Requires the original foreign registration certificate and purchase receipt.
  • License plates from the country of origin can be used temporarily.

Required Documentation

  • Certificate of Title & Registration (copy).
  • Original Purchase Invoice & Bill of Lading.
  • Insurance valid for at least 6 months.
  • Driver’s license & International Insurance (green card).
  • Form IM/EU 4 (agreement not to dispose of vehicle within 12 months).
