General Import Information

• • Age Restriction: There is no specific age restriction for used vehicles imported into Switzerland.
• • Left-Hand Drive Only: Only left-hand drive (LHD) vehicles are permitted for import, aligning with the Swiss driving system.
• • Destination Port: Geneva and Zurich are the primary hubs for automotive entry into Switzerland.
• • Shipping Logistics: Shipments via container take approximately 34–41 days with a weekly schedule from Japan.

Road Traffic Office & Licensing

• • All imported vehicles must undergo a mandatory technical inspection at the cantonal road traffic office to ensure compliance with Swiss safety and environmental standards.
• • Importers must provide an official Exhaust Test Document (Abgaswartungsdokument - AWD) and a valid Swiss insurance certificate.

Duties & Taxes

• • Customs Duty: Switzerland applies a weight-based duty ranging from CHF 12 to CHF 15 per 100 kg (unladen weight).
• • VAT: A standard 7.7% Value Added Tax is applicable on the total value of the vehicle.
• • Personal Goods: Vehicles imported as part of personal household effects during immigration may qualify for specific customs status.
