Bolivia Import Regulations

General Information & Importers

• • Who Can Import: Diplomats (duty-free) and non-diplomats (who must pay all applicable duties and taxes).
• • Drive Side: Left-hand drive vehicles are permitted.
• • Inspection: Pre-shipment authorization is required for any vehicle valued over $12,000 (via SGS or Inspectorate).

Shipping & Restrictions

• • Age Restriction: Only very new vehicles (up to 1 year old) are eligible for import.
• • Destination Port: Iquique (Chile) for transit to Bolivia.

Duties & Taxes

• • Standard import duties apply for all non-diplomatic importers.
• • Diplomats are exempt from all import duties and taxes on eligible vehicles.

Vehicle Documentation Required

• • Original certificate of Title and Registration.
• • Import Permit (approved by the Ministry of External Affairs).
• • Original Commercial / Purchase Invoice.
• • Insurance Policy (original plus two copies).
• • Transport Control Department License.

Additional Documentation (Non-Diplomats)

• • Original Certificate of Origin is mandatory for non-diplomats.
• • A Verification Certificate is required for non-diplomatic imports.
• • Certificate of Condition (confirming the vehicle is in good condition).
• • Detailed vehicle description including make, model, and year.
