Gabon Import Regulations

General Information & Import Rules

• • Who Can Import: Private individuals and registered businesses.
• • Drive Orientation: Only Left-Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles are permitted in Gabon.
• • Age Restriction: Strictly limited to vehicles a maximum of 3 years old; vehicles older than 3 years cannot be imported.
• • Special Note: Vehicles older than 6 months may require additional specific documentation to clear customs successfully.

Shipping & Logistics

• • Destination Port: Libreville.
• • Shipment Details: Approximately 34–44 days via RORO.
• • Vessel Schedule: Monthly frequency.
• • Required Inspection: PROGEC inspection is mandatory.

Duties & Taxes

• • Import Tax: Standard rate of 53.4% based on the CIF value of the vehicle.
• • Additional Taxes: May be applied depending on the final customs official assessment.
• • Note: Tax regularity confirmation for the legal owner is required during the process.

Registration & Compliance

• • Grey Card: Registration depends on the certificate issued by an authorized inspection center.
• • Non-Compliance Penalty: Failure to comply with regulations may result in the destruction of the imported vehicle at the importer’s expense.

Required Documentation

• • Original Purchase and Freight Invoices.
• • Original Bill of Lading (BoL) and Bill of Sale.
• • Original Registration Certificate (Grey Card).
• • Vehicle inspection certificate from a certified organization in the country of origin.
• • Bordereau d’Identification Electronique de Traçabilité (BIETC).
• • Official control document from Interpol.
• • Confirmation of vehicle taxation within the last 3 months.
