General Information & Importers
- • Drive Orientation: Both LHD and RHD allowed; LHD preferred; RHD headlights must be adjusted.
- • Allowed Importers: Bahamian citizens, permanent residents, work permit holders (with approval), registered Bahamian companies, licensed auto dealers.
- • Not Allowed: Tourists, importers without customs approval, vehicles not meeting age/roadworthiness rules.
- • Inspection: No mandatory inspection, but vehicles must go to Road Traffic Department for licensing upon arrival.
Shipping & Restrictions
- • Age Restriction: Maximum 10 years (special permission required for trailers/caravans).
- • Destination Ports: Freeport, Grand Bahama, Nassau.
- • Shipping & Delivery: RORO, 24–39 days; monthly schedule; CNC JAPAN (ECL).

Customs Duties & Other Taxes
- • Passenger cars: 45%–65% (based on engine size, age, fuel type, category).
- • Trucks/vans/buses: 25%–45%.
- • Other Taxes: 10% VAT on CIF + customs duty + port/handling charges; environmental/processing levies may apply.
- • Exemptions: Diplomats and international organization staff (with proper documentation).
Clearance & Important Notes
- • Clearance Time: Approximately 5–10 working days.
- • Note: CIF value used for duty and VAT calculation; poorly maintained or misdeclared vehicles may face delays or penalties.
Required Documentation
- • Certificate of Title and Export/Deregistration Certificate.
- • Bill of Lading and Commercial Invoice.
- • Packing List and Export Inspection Certificate (recommended).
- • Radiation Clearance and Import Approval.
- • Customs Declaration, Proof of Payment, Passport/ID.
