General Information & Importers

Drive Orientation: Both LHD and RHD allowed; LHD preferred; RHD headlights must be adjusted.
Allowed Importers: Bahamian citizens, permanent residents, work permit holders (with approval), registered Bahamian companies, licensed auto dealers.
Not Allowed: Tourists, importers without customs approval, vehicles not meeting age/roadworthiness rules.
Inspection: No mandatory inspection, but vehicles must go to Road Traffic Department for licensing upon arrival.

Shipping & Restrictions

Age Restriction: Maximum 10 years (special permission required for trailers/caravans).
Destination Ports: Freeport, Grand Bahama, Nassau.
Shipping & Delivery: RORO, 24–39 days; monthly schedule; CNC JAPAN (ECL).

Customs Duties & Other Taxes

Passenger cars: 45%–65% (based on engine size, age, fuel type, category).
Trucks/vans/buses: 25%–45%.
Other Taxes: 10% VAT on CIF + customs duty + port/handling charges; environmental/processing levies may apply.
Exemptions: Diplomats and international organization staff (with proper documentation).

Clearance & Important Notes

Clearance Time: Approximately 5–10 working days.
Note: CIF value used for duty and VAT calculation; poorly maintained or misdeclared vehicles may face delays or penalties.
