General Information & Import Rules

  • Who Can Import: Private individuals and registered businesses in Gambia.
  • Drive Orientation: Only Left-Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles are permitted; Right-Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles are prohibited except for authorized special purposes.
  • Age Restriction: Vehicles must be a maximum of 8 years old from the date of manufacture.
  • Pre-shipment Inspection: Mandatory pre-shipment inspection is required; an original or certified copy of the inspection certificate from the country of origin must be provided.

Shipping & Logistics

  • Destination Port: Banjul.
  • Shipment Details: Approximately 26–34 days via container.
  • Vessel Schedule: Weekly frequency.
  • Customs System: Operations are managed via the ASYCUDA system.

Duties & Taxes

  • Import Duty: 25% of the total CIF value.
  • Excise Duty: 20% calculated on the combined CIF value and Import Duty.
  • VAT: 16% calculated on the combined CIF, Import Duty, and Excise Duty.

Required Documentation

  • Original Bill of Lading (BoL) and Purchase Invoice.
  • Official Logbook from the country of origin.
  • Certificate of Ownership (specifying chassis, engine, year, and model).
  • Import Declaration Form from Customs.
  • Legal Conveyance Certificate and International Insurance Policy.
  • Original Commercial Invoice and valid Driver’s License.
