Bangladesh Import Regulations

General Information & Importers

• • Drive Orientation: Right-hand drive only.
• • Allowed Importers: Nationals, returning Bangladeshis, and foreigners with an import permit.
• • Allowed Import Sources: Directly from Japan; third-country imports are not allowed.
• • Not Allowed: Vehicles older than 4 years and third-country imports are prohibited.
• • Inspection: JAAI (Japan Auto Appraisal Institute) inspection is required; the certificate must show age, model, and chassis number.

Shipping & Restrictions

• • Age Restriction: Maximum 4 years old.
• • Shipping & Delivery: RORO, 19–24 days; monthly schedule.

Duties, Taxes & Exemptions

• • VAT: 15%.
• • Import tax: 0–40%.
• • Infrastructure surcharge: 2.5%.
• • Returning nationals may qualify for duty-free import of one vehicle (owned ≥2 years) and exemption from ABST.

Important Notes

• • Age Calculation: Vehicle age is calculated from the first day of the next year of manufacture.
• • Mandatory: JAAI certificate is mandatory for customs clearance.

Required Documentation

• • Original passport & work permit.
• • Certificate of Title/Registration.
• • Invoice to verify age and Country of Origin Certificate.
• • Bill of Lading and Vehicle Condition Report.
• • Letter of Authorization and Import Permit from Chief Controller (for foreigners).
