  • Left-hand drive vehicles: Only left-hand drive vehicles are permitted for import.
  • One vehicle per customer: Only one vehicle per customer is allowed.
  • Fuel requirement: Vehicles must operate with lead-free gasoline.
  • Origin eligibility: Only new or used motor vehicles manufactured in WTO member countries are allowed.
  • Year restriction: Vehicles must be no older than 10 years and not less than 1 year old at the time of import.

Used Cars Import Duties & Taxes

  • Import duty: 17.5% of the customs value (depends on make, model, and age).
  • VAT: 5% on the sum of the vehicle’s value plus import duty and commodity tax.
  • Commodity tax: Depends on engine size, generally 25-30% of the vehicle value.
  • Business tax: 5% on the sum of customs value, import duty, and commodity tax.

Getting a Taiwanese Licence Plate
