Guyana Import Regulations
General Information & Import Rules
- • Who Can Import: Private individuals and registered commercial entities.
- • Drive Orientation: Only Right-Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles are permitted for importation.
- • Age Restriction (Cars): Japanese used cars must be 5 years old or newer from the date of manufacture.
- • Age Restriction (Trucks): Small trucks (3 tons or less) must be 4 years old or newer.
- • Inspection: No mandatory pre-shipment inspection is required for second-hand vehicles imported from Japan.
Shipping & Logistics
- • Destination Port: Port of Georgetown (the principal and recommended port for all vehicle imports).
- • Import Procedure: Entries are submitted via the TRIPS system at the Entry Processing Unit (EPU); payment of all assessed duties and taxes is required at the GRA Cashier before the vehicle is released from the wharf.

Duties & Taxes (Vehicles ≥ 4 Years Old)
- • 1000–1500cc: 10% Duty + US$4,200 Excise Tax.
- • 1501–1800cc: 30% Duty + US$6,000 Excise Tax.
- • 1801–2000cc: 30% Duty + US$6,500 Excise Tax.
- • 2001–3000cc: 70% Duty + US$13,500 Excise Tax.
- • Above 3000cc: 100% Duty + US$14,500 Excise Tax.
Duties & Taxes (Vehicles < 4 Years Old)
- • 1500cc or less: 45% Duty + 14% VAT.
- • 1501–2000cc: 45% Duty + 10% Excise + 14% VAT.
- • 2001–3000cc: 45% Duty + 110% Excise + 14% VAT.
- • Above 3000cc: 45% Duty + 140% Excise + 14% VAT.
Required Documentation
- • Original Bill of Lading (BoL) and Commercial/Purchase Invoice.
- • Original Registration, Title, and De-registration Certificates.
- • Standard Administration Document (S.A.D) and Form C72.
- • Mandatory Certificate of Insurance and Non-sale Certificate.
- • National Identification proof of the importer.
