Age & Importation Rules
- • Vehicles must be 4 years or younger with an odometer reading of 50,000 km or less.
- • Right-hand drive vehicles are allowed.
- • No inspection is required for used cars imported into Barbados.
Who is a Returning National?
- • Criteria: Barbadian citizens over 50 years of age who have lived abroad for 10+ years.
- • Exclusions: Nationals deported for criminal activities do not qualify.
- • Proof of residence abroad and other documentation is required.

- • Import Duty: 45% for used vehicles, per CARICOM Common External Tariff (CET).
- • Excise Tax: Varies; 120% for cars with engine > 1800cc and value > $45,000; 62.77% - 80.16% for vehicles below 5 tonnes.
- • VAT: 17.5% on most used cars imported into Barbados.
- • Environmental Levy: 1% (for vehicles above USD 1,000 or 0.75% on CIF value for containers).
Customs Procedures
- • A customs interview is required, followed by an examination at the importer's residence.
- • Minimum clearance time is 4 days after the interview and inspection.
- • For Diplomats: Approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes 2-4 days; clearance completes within 1-2 days.
Required Documents
- • Valid passport, inventory list, and original Bill of Lading.
- • Import License, Commercial Invoice, and Vehicle Title.
- • Logbook and insurance policy for proof of ownership.
- • Returning Nationals: Proof of citizenship, overseas residence, and ownership for ≥ 4 years.
- • Customs Declaration: Required forms include C-60 (Customs Value) and C-63 (Shipping Details).
