Import Conditions

  • Drive type: Only right-hand drive vehicles are allowed (traffic drives on the left side).
  • Age restriction: Maximum 5 years old.
  • Usage: Vehicle must be for personal use only; it cannot be sold or transferred.
  • Employment requirement: Vehicle must be exported if the importer's employment in Malaysia ends.
  • Approval permit (AP): Required from MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry). Vehicle should be registered in your name for at least 3 years before AP application.

  • Destination ports: Penang (Georgetown), Kelang.
  • Shipping method: Container (approximately 9-13 days).
  • Vessel schedule: Weekly.

Duties and Taxes

  • Up to 1799 cc: 140% of CIF.
  • 1800-1999 cc: 170% of CIF.
  • 2000-2499 cc: 200% of CIF.
  • 2500-2999 cc: 250% of CIF.
  • 3000+ cc: 300% of CIF.
  • Diesel engine: 120% of CIF.

Required Documentation for Import

  • Letter of application to MITI for personal use.
  • JK69 form purchased from MITI and completed.
  • Proof of ownership (purchase receipt or transfer letter from previous owner).
  • Original and photocopy of registration documents.
  • Original insurance documents or letter from insurer.
  • Work permit and employment contract in Malaysia.
  • Photocopy of passport.
  • Malaysian or international driving license.

Vehicle Registration Requirements

  • Identification documents.
  • PUSKAPOM inspection report.
  • Customs Form K1.
  • Approved permit (AP) from MITI.
