Basic Rules
- • Vehicle Type: Only Right-Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles are allowed. Left-Hand Drive requires special Cabinet approval.
- • Age Restriction: There is currently no age limit for imported used cars.
- • Destination Port: Kingstown is the primary entry port.
- • Shipping Logistics: Shipments via RORO take approximately 31–41 days with a monthly schedule.
- • Inspection: Pre-export inspection is not required.
Customs Valuation & Process
- • Uses the transaction value method (invoice price + freight and handling).
- • If documentation is incomplete, fallback valuation is applied based on depreciation, condition, and similar vehicle data.
- • Ensuring the correct tariff code is critical for accurate assessment.

- • Gasoline Cars: 35% duty, 40–45% excise, 4% customs service charge (CSC), surcharge of $3,000–$4,500, and 15% VAT.
- • Diesel Cars: 35% duty, 35% excise, 4% CSC, surcharge of $3,000–$4,500, and 15% VAT.
Concessions (75% Waiver)
- • Returning Nationals: Must have lived abroad for ≥10 years; limit 1 vehicle per household; surcharge applies if vehicle is >4 years old.
- • Professional Farmers: Applicable for pick-ups/light trucks ≤1.5 tons; must have farmed ≥3 acres for 3 consecutive years; limit 1 vehicle per household.
- • Senior Public Servants: Grade B1+ or acting for 2+ years; cars ≤3000cc; 1 vehicle per 4 years; retirees eligible 1 month post-retirement.
Required Documentation
- • Original supplier invoice (including vehicle specs, buyer details, and terms).
- • CIF/FOB/C&F description: Type, model, VIN, color, engine size, weight, and year.
- • Bill of Sight for customs verification.
- • Proof of payment and Original Bill of Lading.
- • Insurance certificate (if applicable).
- • ASYCUDA World bill of lading.
