• Inspection: No pre-shipment inspection required, but mandatory inspection after arrival

• Only Left-hand drive (LHD) vehicles are allowed for import into Norway.

• Imported used vehicles must pass an inspection conducted by Norwegian authorities before they can be registered.
• Inspections are conducted at Local Traffic Services Offices. Taxes cannot be paid until the vehicle is approved.

• A vehicle may be imported duty-free if all the following conditions are met:
  • Owner is moving to Norway on a two-year visa and the vehicle is re-exported at the end of two years.
  • Vehicle has been registered in the owner's name for at least one year and driven minimum 5,000 km (3,200 miles) before import.
  • Returning residents must have lived outside Norway for at least 5 continuous years.
  • Owner has held a valid driver's license for at least one year.
  • Vehicle is used and shows signs of wear.
  • Vehicle cannot be sold or disposed of within two years after arrival.
  • Vehicle complies with Norwegian safety and environmental standards.

• Import Duty: 0% (except under special circumstances)
• VAT: 25% of the vehicle value and associated import costs

• After customs approval and payment of applicable taxes:
  • Customs endorses the registration card.
  • Vehicle must then be registered at a Public Roads Administration Traffic Services Office.
  • Registration requires proof of compliance with safety, environmental, and roadworthiness standards.
