Egypt Import Regulations

General Information & Import Rules

• • Drive Side: Right-hand drive vehicles are permitted in Egypt.
• • Fuel Type Restriction: Diesel vehicles are strictly prohibited from importation.
• • Age Restriction: Only relatively new vehicles are allowed; the maximum age for imported cars is 1 year old.
• • Expatriate Benefits: Those in the government sector may import duty-free with re-exportation guarantees; non-government sector owners or partners may use a local bank guarantee.

Shipping & Logistics

• • Destination Port: Alexandria.
• • Shipment Details: Approximately 21–28 days via container.
• • Vessel Schedule: Weekly frequency.

Duties & Taxes

• • Small Engines (≤ 1600 CC): Standard duty of 40%.
• • Large Engines (> 2000 CC): Standard duty of 125%.
• • Trip Ticket System: Allows for 6 months of duty-free usage; however, the vehicle must then be exported for at least 6 months before re-entry.

Required Documentation

• • Original Certificate of Title and Registration.
• • Commercial Invoice and Certificate of Origin.
• • Original Passport and Original Bill of Lading.
• • Authorization Letter (issued locally within Egypt).
