Used Car Import Rules & Regulations

  • Age restriction: No age limit for importing used vehicles from Japan.
  • Additional excise duties: Used motor vehicles that are 8 years or older (calculated from the year of manufacture) incur additional excise duties.
  • Effective date: From 1st July 2014, vehicles older than 8 years are subject to the new age restriction and related excise duties.
  • Inspection: EAA inspection is mandatory for vehicles imported from Japan.
  • Required certificate: Ensure the vehicle has passed EAA inspection in Japan; the EAA certificate is required for customs clearance and should be included with shipping documents.

Used Cars Import Documentation in Tanzania

  • Bill of lading.
  • Export certificate.
  • Proforma invoice.
  • JEVIC (Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center).
  • QISJ (Quality Inspection Service Japan).
  • Agent's authorization letter (from the importer).
  • Import permits from relevant authorities such as TFDA (Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority) and TBS (Tanzania Bureau of Standards), as necessary.
