Used Car Import Rules & Regulations

Age restriction: No age limit for importing used vehicles from Japan.
Additional excise duties: Used motor vehicles that are 8 years or older (calculated from the year of manufacture) incur additional excise duties.
Effective date: From 1st July 2014, vehicles older than 8 years are subject to the new age restriction and related excise duties.
Inspection: EAA inspection is mandatory for vehicles imported from Japan.
Required certificate: Ensure the vehicle has passed EAA inspection in Japan; the EAA certificate is required for customs clearance and should be included with shipping documents.
