Drive Orientation: Right-hand drive vehicles are allowed. Left-hand drive
vehicles can only be imported temporarily for tours and must be re-exported.
Who Can Import: Licensed companies under the Miscellaneous Licenses Act (Cap
127) or private individuals qualifying under the Customs Import Duty Order 1973/special permit.
Ownership Restrictions: Private-imported vehicles cannot have their ownership
transferred within 4 years without Customs approval.
Mandatory Approval: Land Transport Department approval must be obtained prior
to the vehicle's importation.
Private Use: Maximum 3 years from the original registration date or maximum
4 years from the year of manufacture.
Commercial Use: Maximum 5 years from the original registration date or
maximum 6 years from the year of manufacture.
Private import under exemption allows vehicles up to 5 years old (RHD).
Duties & Taxes
The vehicle value is subject to a customs evaluation to determine the specific duty
calculation.

Original Certificate of Title and Registration.
Original Commercial / Purchase Invoice.
Approval Permit (must be obtained prior to departure from Japan).
Bill of Lading and Certificate of Origin.

Note: Brunei maintains strict age limits and ownership
restrictions; only authorized companies may import vehicles up to 3 years old (RHD) without
special exemptions.
