Sweden Import Regulations

General Import Information

• • Age Restriction: There is no specific age restriction for used vehicles imported into Sweden.
• • Destination Port: Gothenburg is the primary automotive entry point for Sweden.
• • Shipping Logistics: Shipments via RORO take approximately 36–46 days with a bi-monthly schedule.
• • Usage Restriction: The vehicle must be for personal use only and cannot be used for business purposes.

Mandatory Import Rules

• • You must have owned the vehicle for at least one year before importing it into Sweden.
• • You must have a valid permanent residency permit or clear intent to live in Sweden permanently.
• • Only one personal vehicle can be imported per person every three years.

Duties & Taxes

• • Import Duty: 10% of the vehicle’s assessed value.
• • VAT (Moms): 22% calculated on the total value of the vehicle plus shipping costs.
• • Insurance: A valid Swedish insurance policy is mandatory for legal road use immediately after clearance.

Required Documentation

• • Original Vehicle Title and Registration.
• • Sales Invoice / Bill of Sale (showing date, price, and location of purchase).
• • Swedish Customs Form for vehicle imports.
• • Original Bill of Lading (B/L).
• • Valid Driver’s License and proof of Swedish insurance.
