Age Restriction: There is currently no age limit for imported used vehicles in Sierra Leone.
Left-Hand Drive Only: Only left-hand drive vehicles are permitted. Right-hand drive vehicles are strictly forbidden.
Destination Port: Freetown is the primary entry port for vehicle imports.
Shipping Logistics: Shipments via container take approximately 34–45 days with a weekly schedule.
Inspection: No pre-shipment or roadworthiness inspections are required.

Duties & Taxes

Sierra Leone applies a tiered import duty structure based on the vehicle's age at the time of import:

1. Up to 4 Years Old

2. 4 to 10 Years Old

3. Older than 10 Years

Required Documentation

Original Certificate of Title and Registration.
Original Commercial / Purchase Invoice.
Driving License and International Insurance Policy (Green Card).
Residence Permit.
Original Bill of Lading (must include Chassis/Engine numbers, Registration, CC, Year, and Model).
Exemption Form (required only for vehicle imports by diplomats).

Practical Tips

Freetown's port is efficiently served by regular container vessels, making it the most cost-effective entry route.
While there is no age limit, the duty rate increases significantly for cars older than 10 years.
