Steps to Import a Vehicle (UK)
- • Make an Import Declaration: Usually via a shipping company or customs agent.
- • Pay VAT & Customs Duty: Arranged by the shipping company or agent at the UK border.
- • Notify HMRC: Within 14 days of vehicle arrival.
- • Get Vehicle Approval: Ensure it meets UK safety and environmental standards.
- • Register and Tax: Through DVLA to get a registration number and plates.
- • Insure the vehicle: Required before driving on UK roads.
If You Import Yourself (Channel Tunnel/Ferry)
- • Notify HMRC within 14 days.
- • Make an import declaration if required.
- • Make a NOVA (Notification of Vehicle Arrivals) declaration.
- • Complete the same steps for vehicle approval, registration, and insurance.
