United Arab Emirates Import Regulations

Year Restriction

• • Maximum 4 years old from the manufacturing date.
• • Vehicles older than 4 years cannot be registered in the UAE.

Destination Ports & Shipping

• • Destination ports: Jebel Ali, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah.
• • Time of shipment (RORO): 19-29 days.
• • Vessel schedule: Monthly (RORO).
• • Shipping line: Hyundai Glovis.

Inspection & Import Rules

• • No pre-shipment inspection required in Japan.
• • Vehicle will be checked during registration in the UAE.
• • Used car import: Cars must be 4 years old or less to be imported and registered.
• • Vehicle type: Left-Hand Drive (LHD) only allowed.
• • Right-hand drive vehicles cannot be registered for use on UAE roads.
• • Diplomatic imports: Vehicles imported by diplomats may be duty-free with exemption from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Used Cars Import Duties & Taxes

• • Standard duties and taxes apply to imported vehicles, calculated on CIF value.
• • Diplomatic imports are exempt from duties.

Used Cars Import Documentation

• • Original bill of lading (must include make, model, chassis number, engine number, color, type of car).
• • Export certificate (Traffic Department / Title of Ownership).
• • Purchase / commercial / proforma invoice.
• • Copy of passport.
• • UAE residence permit or visa page copy (endorsed on passport).
• • Authority letter (obtained upon arrival in Dubai).
• • Title of ownership (must match the name on visa).
• • Report on car condition from load port.
• • Certificate of origin.
• • Insurance certificate.
