  • Ports: Mombasa (Kenya) or Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), as Uganda is a landlocked country and relies on these regional seaports for vehicle imports.
  • Age restriction: All years allowed.
  • Drive type: Both Right-Hand Drive (RHD) and Left-Hand Drive (LHD) permitted.
  • Inspection: Compulsory roadworthiness Inspection (RWI) by JEVIC/UNBS.

Taxes & Duties

  • Import duty: 15% of dutiable value.
  • VAT: 17% of value.
  • Import commission: 2%.
  • Withholding tax: 6%.
  • Excise duty: 10% on selected cases.
  • Duty remission: Available for some commercial vehicles.

Required Documents

  • Original bills of lading (2 negotiable copies).
  • Work permit / immigration permit / certificate of residence change.
  • Consignee's passport.
  • Vehicle invoice or valuation.
  • Original logbook / export documents.
  • Inventory (English, detailed, signed).
  • Electrical items' serial numbers.
  • Tax Identification Number (TIN).
