Vehicle Import Rules & Regulations

Vehicle Type Allowed:

Left-Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles are allowed to be imported into Oman.

Age Restriction:

Vehicles should be no older than 10 years from the year of manufacture at the time of importation.

Duties & Taxes

Import Duty: Vehicles are subject to an import duty of 5-10% of their value (except for motorcycles).

Duty-Free Entry from GCC Countries:

Vehicles from GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries are eligible for duty-free entry if:

The vehicle is registered in the country of origin.
The vehicle is not older than 2 years at the time of importation.
A statistical report from the Customs of the country of origin must confirm that duties have been paid on the previous shipment.

Required Documentation

Certificate of Title, Registration & Purchase Invoice (from Japan).
Copy of Passport.
Driver's License & Insurance Policy (must be obtained 24h prior to arrival).
Authorization Letter from the Ministry of Commerce in Oman.
Power of Attorney for the Destination Agent.
No Objection Certificate (NOC) from employer (if applicable).
Statistical Report from Customs in the country of origin.

Import Process Overview

Permission: Shipper's agent applies for permission from the Ministry of Commerce.
Insurance: Must be obtained at least 24 hours before arrival in Muscat.
Customs Clearance: Begins once all documents (NOC, Authorization Letter, etc.) are filed.
Green Form: Issued after clearance; must be submitted to Royal Oman Police.
Registration: Handled by the Royal Oman Police after customs clearance is completed.
