Vehicle Import Rules & Regulations

  • Max. Age Limit: Vehicles older than 5 years from the date of manufacture cannot be imported into Russia. The vehicle must be no more than 5 years old at the time of shipment.

Duties & Taxes

  • Import Tax: A 25% duty is applied to the value of the vehicle.
  • Value Added Tax (VAT): A 20% VAT is charged on the vehicle’s value.
  • Exemptions: Accredited foreign companies and residents may be exempt from certain duties, though regulations are complex.

Required Documentation

Personal Imports & Exemptions

  • Permanent Residents: One vehicle duty-free if the engine size < 1,800 cc (requires proof of 6+ months residency abroad).
  • Temporary Import: One vehicle for personal/family use for up to one year without duties (< 1,800 cc).
  • Enterprise Contribution: Vehicles imported as capital contribution for a foreign enterprise are VAT exempt for 1 year from registration.

Temporary Imports (Non-Personal)

  • Partial Tax Relief: Stays over one year may incur a 3% monthly customs charge of the vehicle's cost.
  • Re-exportation: Fees are non-refundable but are included in the final tax if the vehicle is sold.
